CPI systems remained fully functional throughout the CrowdStrike-induced Windows and Azure outage. This issue caused Windows users worldwide to experience the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, which resulted in sudden system shutdowns or restarts. Critical systems, including 911, air travel, and hospital systems worldwide relying on Windows servers and commercial cloud providers, were all impacted. Despite the wide impact, CPI’s SaaS operations were completely unaffected.

ABOUT THE OUTAGE

Late on Thursday night, an update for CrowdStrike’s Falcon EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) product, which runs on Windows machines, caused those machines to fail and enter a boot loop state. The problem stemmed from a defect in one of the updates for computers running the Windows operating system, including those running Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, which hosts many organizations worldwide. This issue caused Windows users worldwide to experience the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, which resulted in sudden system shutdowns or restarts.  Fixing these systems required booting into safe mode and deleting a specific file.
